Fusion Fuel to develop green hydrogen infrastructure in Spain and India

Fusion Fuel Green Plc, a green hydrogen technology company and Confederación Española de Empresarios de Estaciones de Servicio (Ceees) (translates as the Spanish Confederation of Operators of Service Stations) agreed to develop green hydrogen production capacity in Spain.

Fusion Fuel will offer its electrolyser technology, which uses solar radiation to produce green hydrogen without carbon emissions.

The aim is to provide cost-competitive green hydrogen to the Ceees members, supporting expanding the hydrogen refuelling network locally. Initially, they will aim for green hydrogen plants for small refuelling stations in its network, which would be expanded once the market gets matures.

Ceees representing thousands of service station owners across Spain, also added its first hydrogen fuelling station for long haul vehicles in Madrid, Spain. Jorge de Benito, President of Ceees, added: “With the inauguration of our first hydrogen refuelling point earlier this year, Ceees has demonstrated its intention to pioneer the future of sustainable mobility in Spain.”

Joao Wahnon, Head of Business Development at Fusion Fuel, said, “Thanks to the excellent solar resource in Spain, our Hevo-Solar solution will be able to produce green hydrogen extremely competitively, making it a great market for our technology.” The company plans to produce over 20k tonnes/year of green hydrogen by 2025 from company-owned projects, which is expected to be underpinned by the Spanish mobility sector.

Fusion Fuel has also signed an MoU (announced 5th March) with India’s BGR Energy Systems Limited to develop green hydrogen projects in India. The partners plan to build an initial demonstrator facility in India this year before embarking on larger-scale projects to supply hydrogen for green ammonia, bio-ethanol etc.

The demonstrator plant will be built in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India, in H2: 2021 using Fusion Fuel Hevo-Solar technology for hydrogen production.

Arjun Govind Raghupathy, Managing Director of BGR Energy, said, “We look forward to working with Fusion Fuel to scale the development of local green hydrogen production and play a leading role in creating a green hydrogen ecosystem in the region.” BGR has developed more than 12,000 MW of power plants in India.
