Solaris Selects Ballard Fuel Cell Engine for Hydrogen Buses

Ballard Power Systems has been selected by Solaris Bus & Coach as the fuel cell supplier for its next-generation hydrogen bus platform. The agreement includes integration of Ballard’s FCmove®-SC engine into Solaris’ Generation 2 fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) buses, reinforcing a long-standing partnership between the two companies.

The FCmove®-SC engine is designed to deliver higher efficiency, improved durability, and a simplified system architecture. These features help reduce total cost of ownership for operators, particularly in high-utilization and long-range transit applications where hydrogen buses offer advantages over battery-electric alternatives.

The collaboration also extends the existing long-term service agreement through 2029, aligning with planned bus deliveries and strengthening commercial cooperation.

Ballard’s fuel cell technology is already widely deployed, with more than 2,200 buses globally having logged over 300 million kilometers. The company supports customers through a full suite of services including training, maintenance, and digital monitoring to optimize fleet performance.

Solaris, a leading European manufacturer of zero-emission buses, continues to expand its role in sustainable public transport, with hydrogen technology forming a key part of its strategy.
