Ulemoc procures FC module from Toyota; Hyzon and Itochu partner in mining
Ulemco is developing a solution that it believes the major automotive OEMs will not tackle for some time.
Ulemco has started development with the FC fuel cell module from the Toyota Motor Corporation, as it develops a range of optimised hydrogen fuel cell solutions for electric vehicle applications.
As the first step, ULEMCo obtains a fuel cell for evaluation under the feasibility project HySPERT (Hydrogen Special Purpose Electric vehicle platform for Refuse collection and fire Trucks).
It is developing a platform approach under its HyVERIE brand, which takes a flexible approach to configure fuel cell electric vehicle solutions that can be configured on chassis gliders or bespoke specialist body designs.
Amanda Lyne, MD of Ulemco, said, “Smaller specialist companies like Ulemco have a real opportunity to innovate and fill the ‘gaps’ that the big OEMs are just not able to fulfil.”
Meanwhile, Hyzon Motors Inc. and Itochu Corporation have agreed to jointly pursue commercial hydrogen opportunities targeting the mineral and metal industry. Initially, the companies expect to develop a strategy to approach the mining sector, highlighting Hyzon’s FCEV capabilities and then implementing model customer projects in the near term, with a long-term business collaboration to be developed once the market approach has been developed optimised and market potential has been validated. The companies will pursue opportunities in several verticals within the metals and mining sector, including steelmaking, metal smelting, and refining. Hyzon has previously announced definitive orders for coaches and heavy trucks to be deployed in the Australian mining sector.
