Cegas, Dcta, Embraer, ITA, UFC discuss hydrogen for Brazil aviation sector
Green hydrogen is one of the emerging cleaner fuels for heavy fleets and aviation.
Cegas (Brazilian gas distributor), Dcta (the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology), Embraer (the Brazilian Air Force and the Brazilian Aeronautics Company), ITA (Technological Institute of Aeronautics) and UFC (Federal University of Ceará) discussed technological partnerships for the production and distribution of green hydrogen for the aviation sector in Ceará, Brazil.
The meeting also contemplated that the partner institutions could develop a multidisciplinary research centre in Ceara, Brazil involving technologies related to green hydrogen, particularly addressing the aviation sector.
Embraer has recently released details about its newest aircraft, which is a turboprop aimed at regional aviation. Some main features included the position of the aircraft’s engines, which will be installed on the tail of the aircraft, and the potential of hydrogen fuelling.
Last year, Cegas also hosted a national seminar of ProQr, a program of the Federal Government together with the German Government, aiming to develop alternative fuel projects without climate impacts for aviation.
Since the start of this year, UFC and the Government of the State of Ceará and the Federation of Industries of Ceará (FIEC) have been working on the modelling and implementation of a hub of the green hydrogen chain that includes the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP). So far, all the projects announced are primarily aimed at exporting the green hydrogen produced, taking advantage of the connection between pecém and the port of Rotterdam (a shareholder of the CIPP) in the Netherlands.
