VINCI wins green hydrogen steel plant contract worth €74 million in Germany

Cobra IS, a subsidiary of the VINCI group, has been selected by SMS Group GmbH to carry out work on part of the industrial complex of the steelmaker Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe in Duisburg, Germany.

These works amount to 74 million euros.

With an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of pre-reduced iron ore, it is the first site in Germany designed to operate exclusively on green hydrogen.

This project marks a major step in the transition from an industry with a very high carbon footprint to environmentally responsible technologies. It will avoid up to 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
