US Agrichar Earns First USDA Organic Biochar Certification in Colorado

US Agrichar has announced that its biochar has received USDA organic certification, marking the first product of its kind to achieve this status in Colorado and a notable milestone for the wider biochar industry.
The certification has been granted through Where Food Comes From Organic, an accredited USDA organic certification body that verifies production processes, feedstock sourcing and compliance with federal organic standards. It confirms that US Agrichar’s biochar meets requirements for use in certified organic agricultural systems.
Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced by heating organic biomass in low-oxygen conditions and is widely used to improve soil health, enhance water retention and support long-term carbon storage. Its use is increasingly linked to sustainable agriculture practices and environmental management strategies.
US Agrichar’s product is derived from sustainably sourced wood feedstocks and is intended for use in organic farming, soil blends and horticultural applications. The company also highlighted that its production process can contribute to wildfire risk reduction by utilising high-risk forest biomass, including beetle-killed timber from forest management projects in Colorado.
Company leadership said the certification validates its production standards and strengthens its position in the growing market for verified sustainable agricultural inputs, particularly as demand rises among organic growers and nurseries seeking both environmental and agronomic benefits.
