RRA canceled its purchase of 12 hydrogen-powered electric trains

The Railway Reform Authority (RRA) has cancelled the procedure for acquiring 12 hydrogen fuel cell-based electric trains, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The decision was made automatically cancelled in the public procurement system, SEAP, as no offers were submitted.

RRA cancelled the previous bidding procedure last November (2023), due to non-compliance with the sole offer submitted by the Alstom-Linde Gaz consortium.

The total value of the project is 868,917,205.97 lei ($189m), including VAT. RRA will initiate a new market consultation, following which it will determine its future strategy for the acquisition of the 12 hydrogen fuel cell-based electric trains.
