PowerTap and Viridian ink an exclusive Middle East distribution agreement
The collaboration will make the UAE a template for a new hydrogen ecosystem for the region.
PowerTap Hydrogen Capital Corp is partnered with Viridian Hydrogen UAE to develop a hydrogen ecosystem in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and across the Middle East to meet the growing demand for alternatives fuels.
Viridian provides integrated renewable solutions focusing on the development of hydrogen in the UAE and the greater MENA region. It will offer its expertise to maximise the potential of hydrogen through the roll-out of the next generation PowerTap hydrogen filling stations.
The collaboration will support the growing demand for renewable options across the UAE in the coming years. The initiative is in keeping with UAE Vision 2021, whose directives include the support of clean energy and renewable growth plans.
PowerTap aims to help strategically develop a hydrogen highway utilising many of the country’s 643 fuelling stations, where the UAE currently has only two hydrogen stations.
PowerTap plans to deploy around 100 hydrogen fuelling stations with various Middle Eastern governments and private/public multinationals over the next 24 months, subject to completing the prototype PowerTap Gen3 unit and successful testing. PowerTap technology allows hydrogen to be produced onsite and fills up at the point of production, and co-locate with traditional gas stations.
Mr Saad Khan, Partner of Viridian Hydrogen UAE, said, “Viridian is ideally situated to tap into hydrogen’s vast potential and secure the energy needs of the United Arab Emirates and throughout the Middle East not only today but well into the future.”
Mr Raghu Kilambi, CEO of PowerTap Hydrogen Capital Corp, said, “To operate and conduct business in the Middle East, you must have entrenched longstanding local connections with governments and major businesses.”
