MID certifies 100% hydrogen meter; Hexagon signs hydrogen storage deal
The hydrogen meter was installed in the hydrogen houses in the UK and exhibited at COP26.
Italy’s MeteRSit has obtained the Measuring Instrument Directive (MID) certification for the Domusnext® 2.0 MMU6 H2 residential meter that is 100% hydrogen compatible.
The certification, issued by the Dutch body NMi Certin BV, is valid in Europe, the UK, and other non-EU countries. MeteRSit is a part of the Metering division of SIT group that designs, manufactures and sells smart gas meters. The Domusnext® 2.0 MMU6 H2 meter model is the first in the world to obtain the MID certification. It was developed within the British government program ‘Hy4Heat’, in collaboration with Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (Beis).
It is also the same model installed in the 100% hydrogen-powered houses built in Gateshead, in the north of England, and the same was exhibited at the COP26 conference in Glasgow, at the BEIS stand.
Federico de’ Stefani, Chairman and CEO of SIT group, said, “This step is part of the process, started in 2018, that has seen SIT assuming a central role in the hydrogen economy.”
Meanwhile, Hexagon Purus has signed an exclusive long-term supply agreement with a leading European bus OEM for supplying hydrogen storage systems for the OEM’s next-generation two-axle (12 meters) and articulated (18 meters) fuel cell bus offerings. Deliveries will occur between 2021 and 2024, with an estimated sales value of around €30 million (including deliveries already made in 2021). The hydrogen storage systems will be supplied from Hexagon Purus’ facility in Kassel, Germany, and will include Hexagon Purus’ lightweight type 4 cylinders, enabling a driving range of 350 km.
