Hyzon to supply 70 hydrogen trucks to Austria’s Mpreis
Hyzon will supply around 70 hydrogen-powered trucks to the Austrian grocery store chain and explore hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles in alpine conditions.
Hyzon Motors Inc., a leading hydrogen fuel cell-powered commercial vehicles supplier, will supply 70 hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks to JuVe Automotion GmbH.
JuVe is a spin-off of the Austrian grocer Mprei’s hydrogen initiative and will be supplying the trucks to Mpreis and others. JuVe is currently building its own hydrogen production facility near Innsbruck, Austria, using hydropower as well as a network of hydrogen refuelling stations.
Hyzon will start the initial delivery in Q4 of 2021 and complete the order over three years. The first delivery will include three different heavy-duty trucks, including tractor/puller and rigid chassis designs, and are built to support refrigeration units. Hyzon is expected to assemble the trucks at its European facility in the Groningen area of the Netherlands.
Craig Knight, Hyzon CEO, said, “The Mpreis and Hyzon partnership is yet another proof point that demonstrates this transition can start today – the technology, the capital, and the momentum are ready.”
Julia Therese Molk, Member of the Board of Directors, Mpreis, said, “Mpreis prioritises sustainable products on the shelves of our stores, so ensuring that those products are transported in an environmentally-friendly manner is not only a logical extension but central to our corporate initiatives.”
Both partners also agreed to conduct the H2Alpin feasibility study to demonstrate that fuel cell electric vehicles are suitable for the demands of alpine mobility, including steep grades and extreme weather conditions. The study will help Hyzon to learn about the fuel cell trucks performance challenging environments. Hyzon also did similar studies in Australia, testing fuel cell electric vehicle suitability in extreme heat and ultra-fine dust.
