Hyzon supplies hydrogen trucks to steel sector; Ahlstrom-Munksjö expands portfolio

Each 49-ton heavy truck is expected to eliminate an estimated 140 tonnes of CO2 emission a year.

Hyzon Motors Inc. has announced the delivery of 29 fuel cell electric trucks to be used by a major steel conglomerate in China through Shanghai Hydrogen HongYun Automotive Co.

Hongyun has further orders for 33 more trucks confirmed with Hyzon. The 49-ton hydrogen powered trucks delivered in November use a 170-kW fuel cell stack and are expected to haul steel coils in the conglomerate’s fleet in coming months. HongYun plans to provide operation, leasing and maintenance services for industrial and municipal customers in targeted locations in China.

Throughout the 7-year expected life span of the vehicles, the initial order of trucks is expected to eliminate an aggregate of over 30,000 tonnes CO2 emissions.

Craig Knight, Hyzon CEO, said, “We expect that this initial order will make an immediate environmental impact while also providing Hyzon the opportunity to continue enhancing capacity and expertise for future deployments across the globe.”

In another development, Ahlstrom-Munksjo expanded FiltEV portfolio for electric vehicles, delivering new high-performance filtration solutions for fuel cell air intake. The new solutions for fuel cell electric vehicles complement the products launched earlier in the year for all-electric vehicles. This now includes a new dedicated filtration solution for fuel cell air intake.

Cedric Vallet, Head of Business Development at Ahlstrom-Munksjö, said, “By protecting fuel cells from harmful gases and particulates, we ensure the effective operation of the fuel cell over the entire service lifetime of the vehicle.”

Daniele Borlatto, Executive VP at Ahlstrom-Munksjö, commented, “Launching new filtration solutions for vehicles powered by hydrogen expands our strategic commitment to these new markets.”
