GUOFUHEE commissions Morocco’s first integrated green hydrogen demonstration system

afafrChinese hydrogen technology company GUOFUHEE has officially launched Morocco’s first integrated green hydrogen demonstration system in Casablanca, marking a significant milestone for hydrogen development in North Africa.

The project was unveiled at the campus of EHTP Institute in the presence of Nizar Baraka. Developed in partnership with EHTP and GFHA, the system integrates photovoltaic-powered hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and grid-connected power generation within a single closed-loop energy ecosystem.

Designed for Morocco’s Centre of Excellence for Clean Hydrogen, the installation includes 10 Nm³/h hydrogen production units alongside a 10kW fuel cell combined heat and power system supplied by GUOFUHEE. The project uses electricity generated from EHTP’s on-site solar photovoltaic system to produce and store green hydrogen before converting it back into electricity and heat when required.

During the launch ceremony, GUOFUHEE Chairman Wu Pinfang announced that the company would deploy a specialist team of more than 60 engineers to support EHTP’s hydrogen innovation and application platform. He also revealed plans to invest around $30m in the first phase of a 1GW electrolyser manufacturing facility in Morocco.

Alongside the commissioning of the demonstration system, GUOFUHEE, GFHA and partners from Germany and Switzerland signed four strategic memorandums of understanding covering hydrogen-powered transport, smart infrastructure and integrated energy systems. The EHTP Hydrogen Energy Innovation Application Platform was also officially inaugurated.

Morocco is rapidly positioning itself as a major green hydrogen hub, having allocated nearly one million hectares of land for hydrogen projects and planned more than 20GW of renewable energy capacity.

GUOFUHEE said the project represents a transition from exporting standalone equipment towards delivering integrated hydrogen technology ecosystems, industrial standards and infrastructure solutions internationally. The company added that the Moroccan project would provide a replicable model for future hydrogen developments across Africa and other global markets.
