Gen-Hy and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes have launched, Gen-Hy Cube
Gen-Hy, a French start-up, offering innovative solutions in producing green hydrogen, together with Eiffage Énergie Systèmes have announced the launch of Gen-Hy Cube, dedicated to the manufacture of AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) cells, developed and patented by Gen-Hy, whose factory will be based in Montbéliard, near the Swiss border.
This partnership consolidates the product-process engineering production approach operated over the past two years between Gen-Hy and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes. This is an opportunity for the two companies to contribute towards the development of renewable hydrogen production and thus support decarbonisation of the industry, transportation and energy sources.
In this context, Gen-Hy has brought its technological know-how to bear in mastering the production of AEM membranes, but also in the production of catalytic deposits upon membranes and electrodes. This start-up, a spin-off from FFED, specialising in electrolysis for more than 15 years, harbours ambitions to extend and diversify its markets and concentrate upon producing innovative and modular electrolysers.
Eiffage Énergie Systèmes is contributing its financial strength and industrialising abilities by making available its know-how in product-process engineering, lean manufacturing, mechatronics and risk management and becoming involved in stack assembly. As an assembler of energy infrastructures, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes encompasses the green hydrogen subsidiary to offer global and sustainable solutions and respond to the needs of its energy supply customers involved in the ecological transition.
The new factory, set to make its first effective deliveries in 2024, will have an annual production capacity of 100MW AEM electrolysers, possibly going up to 300MW. The innovative technology, unique to France, of Gen-Hy electrolysers will allow an increased yield of 85%, along with high-purity hydrogen.
This technology uses readily-available materials at low cost (no rare metals). Thanks to this technology, 1MW installed will allow annual production of up to 160 tonnes of hydrogen.
It may be recalled that in December 2021 Gen-Hy opened its first AEM membrane manufacturing plant in Orly, which was also the first plant to be set up in France. It permitted the start-up from then on to offer a range of AEM alkaline electrolysers from 50kW to 4MW using an innovative and modular design with the aim of supporting customers with their real-world needs
