Fusion Fuel to deliver green hydrogen project for Spanish cement plant

Fusion Fuel Green PLC has announced that its subsidiary Bright Hydrogen Solutions Limited will construct and operate a 2 MW green hydrogen production facility for Çimsa Cementos España S.A.U. in Buñol, Spain, targeting emissions reductions in one of the world’s hardest-to-abate industrial sectors.

The project is designed to integrate green hydrogen into cement production processes as an alternative fuel source, supporting efforts to lower carbon emissions associated with high-temperature industrial operations that are traditionally dependent on fossil fuels.

Under the agreement, BrightHy Solutions will provide engineering, installation, supply and operational services through its Spanish division, while the broader project structure includes a dedicated project company managed under the group’s hydrogen investment platform.

The facility will utilise electrolyser technology supplied through BrightHy Solutions’ partnership with Sungrow Hydrogen, with hydrogen production intended to support decarbonisation of thermal processes within the cement plant.

Fusion Fuel said the project reflects growing market demand for commercially viable industrial hydrogen applications capable of moving beyond pilot announcements towards operational deployment.

Chief Executive Officer Frederico Figueira de Chaves said the hydrogen sector is increasingly shifting its focus towards projects that demonstrate execution capability, operational reliability and long-term industrial integration.

He added that cement production represents one of the largest industrial decarbonisation opportunities globally due to its continuous heat requirements and limited alternatives to fossil-based fuels in certain production stages.

The company expects the project to generate multi-million-dollar long-term value for both BrightHy Solutions and Fusion Fuel, while also creating opportunities for follow-on developments with the client as industrial hydrogen adoption expands.

Industry participants increasingly view sectors such as cement, steel and chemicals as critical markets for green hydrogen deployment, particularly where direct electrification remains technically difficult or economically challenging.

Fusion Fuel said the project strengthens BrightHy Solutions’ position as an integrated hydrogen engineering and asset management platform focused on supporting industrial decarbonisation projects across southern Europe.
