Countrywide Hydrogen & WIRSOL explore solar-to-hydrogen
To determine whether it may be feasible to co-locate countrywide hydrogen production facilities on WIRSOL’s established solar farms throughout Australia.
ReNu Energy Limited has signed an agreement between its wholly owned subsidiary Countrywide Hydrogen Pty Ltd and WIRSOL Energy to assess the co-development of behind-the-meter solar power and battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Countrywide’s hydrogen projects in Tasmania.
Countrywide is progressing two hydrogen projects in Tasmania, north and south of the State, to establish Tasmania as a showcase hydrogen state. Under the agreement, WIRSOL will evaluate the potential project locations to scope solar and possible battery installations to provide Countrywide with energy for hydrogen production.
Geoffrey Drucker, ReNu Energy Executive Director, said, “With an established solar project development track record in Australia, we reached out to WIRSOL to determine their interest in co-developing behind-the-meter solar to hydrogen projects.
Mr Sigi Psutka, MD of WIRSOL, said, “Our in-house team works to challenge the norm and be among the first in the field to integrate new technologies like onsite hydrogen production and trading to play our part in the ongoing and crucially important transition away from fossil energy sources. “
Greg Watson, CEO of ReNu Energy, said, “With our green hydrogen project planned for Northern Tasmania, and recent announcements for our Southern Tasmania project along with the collaboration with Tas Gas, this agreement with WIRSOL allows us to assess options for the lowest cost of energy for hydrogen production at the project locations.
