Arcola Energy to collaborate for developing the first Scottish hydrogen-based train

Arcola Energy, a UK hydrogen and fuel cell integration company, is appointed to deliver a production-ready hydrogen-powered train by November 2021.

Arcola Energy will use its A-Drive technology platform for design and integration to meet rail safety and compliance requirements. The technology platform will help cut time and cost significantly.

The project is supported by Scottish Enterprise, Transport Scotland and the Hydrogen Accelerator. Arcola Energy will lead the consortium, consisting of Arup, Abbott Risk Consulting and AEGIS Certification Services.

A vital goal is to create opportunities across the Scottish rail supply chain by developing skills and promoting hydrogen technology commercialisation. Scotland aims to make passenger railways emission-free by 2035.
