Morocco launches GreenH2 Maroc cluster
The hydrogen platform will work on the industrialisation of green hydrogen in the country.
Morocco energy minister, Mr Aziz Rabbah, launched the national green hydrogen cluster GreenH2 Maroc in Rabat, Morocco, H2Bulletin reports.
The GreenH2 cluster aims to support the country green hydrogen industry and make the country a leading regional hub in the global green hydrogen value chain. GreenH2 cluster will also promote knowledge transfer through cooperation between national and international partners.
The country has been in talks with other countries to develop its green hydrogen market. It is trying to use its renewable energy resources to make green hydrogen for the export market. It has recently signed a green hydrogen corporation agreement with Portugal.
The GreenH2 Morocco cluster aims to integrate the country ecosystem and prepare a regulatory framework to support the new emerging industry. It will also look into the development and industrialisation of green hydrogen, particularly in cooperation with the Research Institute for Solar Energy and Renewable Energy (IRESEN) and in partnership with the Mohammed VI Polytechnique University (UM6P).
Morocco believes that it is very much qualified to become a key player in developing green hydrogen in the context of the European Green Deal, given its geographical location and exceptional natural resources.
The GreenH2 Maroc was launched last week with the main founding members include the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Environment, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Green and Digital Economy, the National Fuel and Mines Administration (ONHYM), the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), and the National Office for Drinking Water and Electricity (ONEE). Other founding members also include public and private Moroccan universities, companies and associations working in the energy sector.
