Prometheus Materials Secures Algae Supply Deal for Low-Carbon Cement Expansion

Prometheus Materials has signed a long-term strategic partnership with Green Stream Algae aimed at scaling production of its ProZERO low-carbon cement technology across North and South America.

The agreement establishes Green Stream Algae as Prometheus Materials’ exclusive supplier of microalgae and biominerals in the two regions for an initial 10-year term, with options for two additional five-year extensions. The partnership is designed to secure long-term access to the biological materials required for the commercial expansion of ProZERO, the company’s low-carbon supplemental cement blend.

The deal builds on an existing supplier relationship between the two companies, with Green Stream Algae also becoming a strategic investor in Prometheus Materials as part of the collaboration.

Prometheus Materials said the agreement provides a scalable supply foundation as demand grows for lower-emissions construction materials and sustainable concrete solutions. Microalgae and biominerals form key components of ProZERO, which is designed to replace a portion of traditional cement in a one-to-one ratio while integrating into existing concrete production processes without requiring significant infrastructure changes.

Loren Burnett said the partnership marked a major milestone in scaling the company’s technology and delivering commercially viable low-carbon cement products.

He said Green Stream Algae had already proven itself as a trusted supplier and that the deeper collaboration would strengthen the company’s ability to meet rising market demand for sustainable construction materials.

Todd Hansen said the partnership highlighted the growing role that naturally derived materials could play in addressing industrial sustainability challenges.

Hansen added that microalgae-based solutions demonstrated how biological systems could provide practical and scalable alternatives for the construction industry.

The cement industry remains one of the world’s largest industrial sources of carbon emissions, prompting growing interest in alternative cement technologies capable of reducing the environmental impact of concrete production. Companies developing lower-carbon substitutes are increasingly seeking secure supply chains and strategic partnerships as commercial adoption begins to accelerate.

The partnership gives Prometheus Materials greater supply certainty at a time when demand for lower-carbon building materials is gaining momentum globally. By locking in long-term access to key biological inputs, the company strengthens its ability to scale production and compete in a market where reliability and commercial readiness are becoming as important as sustainability claims. If ProZERO can achieve widespread adoption without disrupting existing manufacturing processes, it could improve its chances of broader industry acceptance.
