NH3 Joins Global Ammonia Certification Pilot

NH3 Clean Energy Limited has joined the pilot phase of the Ammonia Energy Association’s new Ammonia Certification System, positioning the company among the first movers seeking independently verified certification for low-emissions ammonia production.

The certification framework, developed by the Ammonia Energy Association, is designed to support transparent and traceable international trade in clean ammonia as global demand for low-carbon fuels accelerates across the energy, shipping and industrial sectors.

Participation in the pilot will allow NH3 Clean Energy to pre-certify the expected emissions profile of ammonia produced from its planned WAH2 Project ahead of commercial operations. The company said the process would provide prospective customers, financiers and strategic partners with greater confidence in the project’s decarbonisation credentials as discussions continue around future offtake agreements.

NH3 said the initiative strengthens its position in premium clean fuel markets by enabling ongoing certification of both the carbon intensity and origin of ammonia produced at the project during operations. The associated Ammonia Registry will also provide a secure digital platform aimed at improving transparency, traceability and data exchange across the ammonia value chain.

Chairman Charles Whitfield said participation in the certification pilot underlined the company’s leadership ambitions in the emerging clean ammonia sector.

He said international customers were increasingly prioritising independently verified low-emissions supply and that early engagement with globally aligned certification systems would enhance the strategic positioning of the WAH2 Project and support ongoing engagement with offtake partners.

AEA Executive Director Trevor Brown said NH3’s involvement demonstrated a proactive approach to transparency and carbon accounting in the developing clean ammonia market.

Brown added that internationally aligned certification systems would play an important role in building market confidence and accelerating global trade in low-emission ammonia.

NH3 Clean Energy’s early participation in the Ammonia Certification System could provide a competitive advantage as buyers increasingly demand independently verified low-carbon fuels. While the clean ammonia sector remains in its formative stages, companies able to demonstrate credible emissions transparency are likely to be better positioned to secure financing, strategic partnerships and long-term supply agreements as global standards mature.
