ORLEN Awards Hydrogen Hub Contract

Torpol Oil & Gas Sp. z o.o. has signed a PLN 75 million net contract with ORLEN S.A. for the construction of a hydrogen production hub in Szczecin, marking another step in Poland’s expanding hydrogen infrastructure development.
The project, titled “Construction of a hydrogen production facility, HUB Szczecin,” will be delivered under an EPC formula and includes the turnkey construction of a hydrogen production installation featuring a 5 MW electrolyzer, hydrogen storage systems, and associated hydrogen loading infrastructure.
According to the companies, the facility will produce at least 90 kilograms of hydrogen per hour and is intended to support Poland’s broader energy transition goals, including transport and industrial decarbonization initiatives.
The project strengthens ORLEN’s growing hydrogen strategy while also reinforcing Torpol Oil & Gas’ position in the emerging hydrogen infrastructure market. The company said the contract reflects its long-term strategy to diversify operations beyond its traditional rail infrastructure business and expand into modern energy technologies.
Torpol Oil & Gas has previously participated in several hydrogen-related projects, including the Power-to-Gas hydrogen installation in Odolanów. The company is also currently developing a hydrogen production, storage, and distribution facility for the MZK Konin public transport operator.
Cezary Pokrzywniak, President of the Management Board of Torpol Oil & Gas, said the agreement with ORLEN represents an important milestone in the company’s expansion into advanced energy infrastructure and confirms its capability to execute technically complex hydrogen projects.
The Szczecin hydrogen hub forms part of wider efforts in Poland to scale domestic hydrogen production capacity and develop new competencies in clean energy technologies. Hydrogen is increasingly viewed as a strategic component of industrial decarbonization and low-emission transport systems across Europe.
At the end of 2025, Torpol Oil & Gas reported an order backlog totaling PLN 112.1 million net. The company continues to focus on projects across the energy, gas, refining, chemical, hydrogen, biogas, biomethane, and waste-to-energy sectors, with key customers including the ORLEN Group, AZOTY Group, and GAZ-SYSTEM.
