Portugal to install first hydrogen fuelling station in 2021

Caetano Bus to install the country’s first hydrogen fuelling station over the coming nine months in Ovar, Portugal. The president of the company, José Ramos, revealed the plan during his interview to local radio, TSF.

José Ramos who is also the president of Toyota Caetano Portugal and the Automobile Trade Association of Portugal (ACAP) claims that the bus factory in Ovar will have to produce hydrogen for its own use due to insufficient supply in Portugal. He emphasised that the government should provide more support to the hydrogen market.

CaetanoBus has recently received an order from TBM Barcelona to supply eight 12m hydrogen buses by the end of 2021. The H2. City Gold buses will be installed with Toyota fuel cell with a driving range over 400 kilometres.

Portugal has set goals to have hydrogen as an energy source by 2030. It plans to have 5% of hydrogen energy consumption; a 15% mix of hydrogen with natural gas; and around 100 hydrogen fuelling stations across the country.
