ABB and AFC Energy partners to develop hydrogen fuel cell-based chargers
ABB partnered with AFC Energy to develop high power electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions for grid constrained locations.
The charging technology will be fully autonomous and able to work with limited grid connection. It will work in zero emissions and will initially be deployed in Europe and the US in the second half of 2021.
AFC Energy provides hydrogen power generation technology for off-grid applications. It introduced CH2ARGE off-grid charging solution combining hydrogen fuel cell system with a battery last year.
AFC Energy’s HydroX-Cell(L) delivers zero-emission power and is used for off-grid hydrogen-fueled EV recharging.
CEO of AFC Energy, Adam Bond, said that the partnership is a historical milestone and will help the market with zero-emission solution and alkaline fuel cell technologies.
Frank Muehlon, Head of ABB’s global business for E-mobility Infrastructure Solutions said that the new charger will go beyond the traditional EV market and can be used for commercial and logistics carriers, marine and urban transport.
