Veer and Fosen Shipyard inked LOI for construction hydrogen-assisted container vessels
VeerVoyage has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Fosen Stralsund GmbH Shipyard. Veer and Fosen have signed a formal LOI to develop, construct, sell, and purchase two (2) firm units of wind-powered and hydrogen-assisted container vessels.
“We are delighted and excited that Veer has chosen Fosen to build the first zero-emissions container carrier in Germany,” says Carsten Stellamanns. “Together with Veer, we are looking forward to creating a game-changing concept and bringing it to the waters.”
“We are thrilled to be taking this major step forward with Fosen Shipyard. After a thorough, year-long tender process, our team is confident that Fosen is the best fit. Fosen is a highly capable shipyard and it is inspiring to work with leadership who see the value and potential of Veer’s vision.’’ commented Danielle Southcott.
For technical management, Veer has partnered with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement. Veer has also engaged with FUTURESHIPS ship brokerage and is in discussion with multiple charterers for clean liner services beginning in 2027.
Veer will deploy the world’s first clean container ship to cross an ocean. Veer’s future-fit, fast, clean, cost-competitive fleet combines innovative hull shape, DynaRig sails, and hydrogen fuel cells for increased speed and range. Veer’s Design N°1 is defined as ‘‘absolute zero emissions’’ by the International Maritime Organization and boasts class notations for silent operation, making it perfect for Green Shipping Corridors, Marine Protected Areas, and exemption from the European Union Emission Trading System.
Design N°1 has received complete Approval in Principle from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and was selected by the European Maritime Safety Agency as an exemplary vessel for two industry studies; wind and hydrogen fuel.
Veer’s clean fleet will help achieve energy transition goals and align with ESG strategies of countries, corporations, the United Nations, and Non- Non-government organisations.
Veer has secured a €50M Letter of Intent from PROW Capital, Amsterdam, to finance the design and construction of these revolutionary ships.
