Master Hydrogen to be unveiled this year
Renault to unveil its electric and hydrogen LCV later this year, being developed with Plug Power
Renault has disclosed its new light commercial vehicles (LCV) line up today (24th March), announcing expansion and renewal of its LCV range, H2Bulletin reports.
The automaker confirmed to reveal a new Master Hydrogen van at the end of 2021, which is being developed with Plug Power. Renault has set a target to achieve 30% of the European hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles market by 2030.
The Master Hydrogen is currently under development but will be unveiled later this year, with the sales to start in Europe in 2022. The range of hydrogen-powered vehicles is expected to be up to 600 km.
Mark Sutcliffe, SVP, LCV Renault Business Unit, said, “As the leader of electric LCV in Europe, we are also preparing the future with new electric and hydrogen products and solutions.”
Renault and Plug Power signed an MoU in January this year, establishing a 50-50 joint-venture by mid-2021. The JV will conduct R&D to advance the fuel cell technology and hydrogen-powered vehicles to capture a 30% share of the European fuel cell light commercial vehicles market.
Renault has been testing hydrogen technology since 2014, which was developed in partnership with Symbio (the joint venture formed by Faurecia and Michelina Groupe Michelin). In 2019, it offered Renault Master ZE installed with a range extender fuel cell providing electric and thermal power of 10 kW, and increased the range of Renault Kangoo ZE Hydrogen to over 350 km. Renault Master ZE Hydrogen is a battery-powered electric vehicle equipped with a hydrogen system (StackPack).
