First Hydrogen to develop commercial vans; Hexagon Purus joins the ZeroCoaster study
First Hydrogen is developing a hydrogen-based light commercial vehicle under two agreements with AVL Powertrain UK and Ballard.
First Hydrogen Corp. has completed the initial design of its light commercial demonstrator vehicles for the UK market.
The company has completed the design works in cooperation with AVL Powertrain Limited and Ballard Power Systems Inc. The development work on two hydrogen fuel cell-powered light commercial demonstrator vans has been started at the AVL facilities in the UK for delivery in Q3 2022. These Vans will use the MAN eTGE as a donor vehicle and be equipped with the latest generation Ballard FCgen®-LCS fuel cell, giving the vehicles a range of over 500 km. These vehicles will demonstrate the capabilities of a zero-emission hydrogen van and together detailed specifications from customers and secure orders.
In a separate development, Hexagon Purus to join the ZeroCoaster project study, collaborating with leading partners to explore and develop the hydrogen value chain for maritime applications. It joins Zero Emission Compressed Hydrogen (ZECH), a part of the ZeroCoaster project study coordinated by Vard. This study aims to research, evaluate and present zero-emission ship design solutions using alternative fuel systems.
The Research Council of Norway funds the project study. The project aims to research and propose a cost-competitive hydrogen value chain that can support and accelerate the transition to zero-emission shipping solutions. Hexagon Purus will contribute with its knowledge and expertise in storing and distributing compressed hydrogen gas using Type 4 composite cylinder technology.
