Total Eren to develop green hydrogen project in Chile
Total Eren agreement with Enap is to support the hydrogen project.
Enap (the national petroleum company) has recently signed a collaboration agreement with Total Eren (an Independent producer of renewable energy) for developing a green hydrogen project in the Magallanes Region.
The agreement covers the technical and operational aspects of the project. Total Eren will develop the project located in the municipality of San Gregorio, Magallanes Region. The plant will have around 10 GW of installed wind capacity and up to 8 GW of electrolysis capacity, and a new port terminal.
The parties will also evaluate the possibility of using Enap ports and infrastructure for backup situations, especially during the project’s construction phase.
Andrés Roccatagliata, CEO of Enap commented that this agreement would allow Enap to contribute its know-how and operational experience in the area to facilitate the development of the project, thus reinforcing its driving role in the Region of Magallanes and the development of New Energies as well as continuing to consolidate knowledge and experience in the matter.
Fabienne Demol, Executive VP at Total Eren, added that Total Eren is excited about the collaboration with Enap on the H2 Magallanes green hydrogen project.
Previously, Enap showed its commitment to promoting and developing green hydrogen in Chile and joined the Chilean Hydrogen Association. 28 members founded the association on January 9, 2018, which membership now reached 104 partners. The association purpose is to accelerate the country’s energy transition by promoting hydrogen as sustainable energy. Enap is also promoting a plan to achieve zero net emissions by 2050.
