Solaris Wins Order for 19 Hydrogen Buses in Germany

Solaris Bus & Coach has secured a contract to supply 19 hydrogen-powered buses to SWK Mobil Krefeld, further expanding zero-emission public transport in Krefeld.
The order includes nine Urbino 12 hydrogen buses and ten articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses, with delivery scheduled for 2027. The new vehicles will strengthen the operator’s growing zero-emission fleet and support its transition away from conventional diesel buses.
Both models are powered by hydrogen fuel cells, which generate electricity to drive the vehicle’s electric motor. The 12-metre buses will feature a 160 kW central motor, while the articulated versions will be equipped with a more powerful 240 kW drivetrain. The vehicles will also include advanced features such as camera-based mirror systems, safety enhancements for drivers, and improved passenger comfort.
Accessibility has been a key consideration in the design, with onboard ramps and dedicated wheelchair spaces to ensure inclusive transport for all passengers.
This latest agreement builds on a long-standing relationship between Solaris and SWK Mobil Krefeld, which began in 2011. The operator has already introduced hydrogen buses into its fleet, having ordered 10 Urbino 12 hydrogen vehicles in 2023, delivered in 2025.
As part of the contract, SWK Mobil Krefeld will continue using Solaris’s eSConnect system, a digital fleet management platform that provides real-time data on vehicle performance and supports operational planning.
Solaris has delivered more than 800 hydrogen buses across Europe to date, with Germany emerging as one of its most active markets. Around half of all Solaris hydrogen buses are operating in German cities, highlighting the country’s strong momentum in adopting hydrogen-powered public transport solutions.
