SK E&S-Plug Power supplies water electrolysis equipment to Jeju
This is the first time an MW-class PEM water electrolysis facility has been introduced in Korea on a single scale.
SK Plug Hyverse signed a contract with Korea Gas Corporation to supply a 1 MW-class polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) water electrolysis facility that extracts hydrogen by electrolysis of water.
SK Plug Hiverse is a joint venture (JV) established in January this year by SK E&S and US hydrogen company Plug to promote joint projects in Asia.
The PEM water electrolysis facility supplied by this company is a national project of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and is supported by the Korea Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning Institute and demonstrating for the application of the project.
The project’s main goal is to produce clean green hydrogen by electrolyzing water using renewable energy generated from the Haengwon wind power plant in Jeju Island and supplying it through a hydrogen charging station in the Jeju area.
The Korea Gas Corporation and the organizer Jeju Energy Corporation will participate in verifying the efficiency and safety of the green hydrogen production system using wind energy.
In addition, SK Plug Hibus participated in the ‘10 MW-class renewable energy-linked large-scale green hydrogen demonstration technology development’ project, a national R&D project supervised by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. will be operating Through this, SK Plug Hibus is expected to emerge as the largest green hydrogen supplier in Korea, producing and supplying 450 tons of green hydrogen every year from 2025.
Currently, in order to supply water electrolysis facilities and hydrogen fuel cell products to the domestic and Asian markets, the company is building a hydrogen facility production and research base, ‘Giga-factory,’ in Cheongna International City, Seo-gu, Incheon, with the goal of the second half of 2023. is under construction.
