Saipem and Capsol Join Forces on CO2 Capture Solutions

Saipem and Capsol Technologies ASA have signed a non-exclusive cooperation agreement aimed at advancing industrial-scale carbon capture solutions, strengthening their position in the rapidly growing carbon management market.

The partnership will focus on the development of projects within the Hot Potassium Carbonate (HPC) segment, combining Capsol’s cost-efficient CO2 capture technology with Saipem’s extensive expertise in delivering complex energy infrastructure projects. Together, the companies aim to provide large industrial emitters with integrated, reliable and scalable carbon capture systems that are quick to deploy and tailored to hard-to-abate industries and the wider energy sector.

The collaboration builds on the companies’ existing work on the Stockholm Exergi bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project, currently under construction. In that project, Saipem is acting as EPC contractor while Capsol is supplying its carbon capture technology. The success of this partnership has laid the groundwork for further joint initiatives targeting large-scale HPC-based CO2 capture developments.

Under the agreement, both companies will also coordinate their participation in future bids and tenders, offering customers a comprehensive package that combines advanced technology, optimised engineering design, modularised solutions and project execution capabilities.

The initiative aligns with Saipem’s broader strategy to expand its carbon capture portfolio, particularly in potassium carbonate-based solvent technologies. This strategy also includes proprietary modular solutions designed for small and medium-sized emitters, such as the Bluenzyme™ platform.

As demand for decarbonisation solutions continues to grow worldwide, the agreement positions both Saipem and Capsol to play a larger role in supporting industrial sectors on the path towards lower emissions and greater sustainability.
