Ricoh increases investment in ASUENE to boost decarbonisation services

Ricoh has made a follow-on investment in Japanese sustainability technology company ASUENE as it strengthens its efforts to help businesses measure, reduce and report carbon emissions.

The investment, made through the RICOH Innovation Fund, builds on Ricoh’s initial backing of ASUENE in June 2024 and reflects the companies’ growing collaboration in providing decarbonisation solutions to customers in Japan and overseas.

ASUENE develops artificial intelligence-powered sustainability software that enables businesses to calculate CO2 emissions, identify reduction opportunities and prepare environmental disclosures in response to increasing regulatory and investor expectations.

Ricoh said the additional investment supports its strategy of expanding solutions that contribute to the transition towards a decarbonised economy, commonly referred to in Japan as green transformation.

Since becoming an investor, Ricoh has worked closely with ASUENE on a range of sustainability initiatives. In 2025, Ricoh Japan joined ASUENE in a Tokyo Metropolitan Government programme designed to help companies develop corporate decarbonisation plans.

The partnership combined ASUENE’s carbon emissions measurement platform with Ricoh’s expertise in energy efficiency assessments and energy-saving recommendations, providing participating businesses with practical support to reduce emissions and improve sustainability performance.

The collaboration has also expanded internationally. Ricoh Taiwan is a member of the Taiwan-Japan Carbon Alliance, established by ASUENE with organisations involved in environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives and decarbonisation. Through the alliance, Ricoh Taiwan is helping promote green procurement while supporting businesses with environmentally conscious workplace solutions and energy efficiency services.

Ricoh said the two companies now plan to deepen their partnership in Japan by supporting a wider range of customers, including small and medium-sized enterprises, while also exploring opportunities to expand their collaboration globally.

Eiji Suzuki, General Manager of the Corporate Planning Centre at Ricoh, said the additional investment will strengthen the companies’ global partnership and enhance support for customers pursuing decarbonisation strategies.

He said combining ASUENE’s sustainability AI platform with Ricoh’s international customer network and environmental expertise will enable businesses to access end-to-end support covering carbon emissions measurement, emissions reduction initiatives and sustainability reporting.

Ricoh said the latest investment reflects ASUENE’s growth potential and the commercial benefits already demonstrated through the partnership. The company added that it will continue using the RICOH Innovation Fund to promote open innovation and accelerate the development of new sustainability-focused technologies through collaboration with startups.

As climate disclosure requirements continue to expand worldwide, demand for digital platforms that simplify emissions reporting and support corporate decarbonisation is expected to grow rapidly, creating new opportunities for technology providers operating in the sustainability sector.
