Plug Power to open European HQ in Germany

Hydrogen is a key enabler for the climate-friendly transformation for various industries.

Plug Power Inc. (a leading hydrogen solutions provider) will expand its operations with a European headquarters in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.

Plug Power will initially use 70,000-square foot facility housing an innovation centre, engineering labs, technical support centre etc. The premises will also host a green hydrogen generator with an electrolyser infrastructure on site.

The facility will open at the start of 2022 and will accommodate 30 employees. The workforce will increase to nearly 60 employees by mid-2022.

The company will serve new and existing customers through the new HQ and build partnerships with leaders in hydrogen applications. The European headquarters aims to rapidly expand its workforce with the increase in demand for clean energy solutions.

Plug Power has been present in Europe for over ten years and has made significant progress in hydrogen mobility with partners, including its partnership with Renault called Hyvia. It has installed PEM technology electrolysers in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Portugal.

The announcement was initially made during a meeting between Andy Marsh, Plug Power CEO, and German minister Andreas Pinkwart in Washington DC this week.

Andy Marsh, Plug Power CEO, said, “Green hydrogen serves as an instrumental part in transitioning from our reliance on fossil fuels, and Plug is well-positioned to fill the needs of customers ready to make the change.”
