Nel and Haldor Topsoe to offer E2E solutions for green ammonia and methanol

Topsoe has currently been working on various green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol projects

Nel ASA and Haldor Topsoe have inked a non-exclusive MoU today (25th March) intending to offer complete end-to-end renewable electricity to green ammonia and methanol solutions using their respective technologies.

Both companies will bring together their technologies for offering end-to-end solutions. On the hydrogen segment, Nel will offer its alkaline and PEM electrolysis technology with proprietary hardware. Haldor Topsoe will support the ammonia and methanol technologies aspect by offering catalyst, engineering, and hardware expertise.

Jon Andre Lokke, CEO of Nel ASA, said, “This is a market that is expected to grow significantly in the years to come, and we look forward to working with Haldor Topsoe to deliver complete solutions to customers, based on demonstrated technologies available today.”

Amy Hebert, Chief Commercial Officer of Haldor Topsoe, said, “This cooperation speaks directly to our customers’ needs as we see massive interest from the market requesting basic engineering, license, and process guarantee in one package.”

Topsoe is currently engaged in several projects, including neom (Saudi Arabia), to produce green hydrogen, green ammonia, eMethanol™, and green fuels. Topsoe has recently signed an agreement with Aquamarine to build a green ammonia facility by 2024, using a 100 MW SOEC electrolysis unit producing green hydrogen for conversion to green ammonia.
