Monolith sign up for 2 million MWh renewable energy

Monolith Materials Inc has signed a letter of intent with Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) to secure two million MWh renewable energy annually for its Olive Creek facility.

Monolith Materials produces carbon black and hydrogen from conventional and renewable natural gas by using renewable energy.

Monolith will be the largest consumer of energy in Nebraska once its OC2 expansion project starts operation. The facility will run solely on renewable energy. It plans to use a mix of solar and wind power in combination with energy storage. This will also help the company to satisfy the power needs of its OC1 facility.

NPPD will start the bidding process through a request for proposals (RFP) issued in March 2021, for new renewable power generation, including energy storage, through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). NPPD aims to start PPA by 1st September 2021, with commercial operations expected to begin by the end of 2025.
