Hongfeng Carbon Expands Global Footprint with New Production and R&D Facilities in Japan

Hongfeng Carbon Solutions has strengthened its position in advanced materials manufacturing with the opening of two new production and research facilities in Japan, marking a strategic expansion aimed at meeting growing global demand for high-performance carbon-based technologies.

The company has established operations through Hong Center Industrial Ltd. in Kashiwa, alongside a second major production facility in Chonan. Together, the sites will focus on the development and manufacturing of specialised carbon materials used across a range of high-tech industries, including semiconductors, medical devices and industrial precision components.

The expansion increases Hongfeng’s global production footprint to more than 25,000 square metres, enhancing both manufacturing capacity and supply chain resilience. The facilities are equipped with advanced processing capabilities such as ultra-purification, pyrolytic treatments and glassy carbon production, enabling both large-scale manufacturing and rapid prototyping for international clients.

Japan’s reputation as a centre for advanced materials innovation and precision engineering played a key role in the company’s location decision. By establishing a dual presence across China and Japan, Hongfeng is seeking to diversify its production base and ensure more stable delivery of critical materials to global markets.

The Kashiwa facility has been operational since the second quarter of 2025, while the Chonan site is expected to reach full capacity by the third quarter of 2026. Both locations incorporate automated systems designed to improve efficiency and support consistent, high-quality output.

Demand for specialised carbon materials continues to rise, driven in part by the rapid growth of semiconductor manufacturing, photonics and medical technologies. Graphite bipolar plates—used in hydrogen fuel cells—as well as precision nozzles and industrial components are among the key products expected to see increased production.

With this latest expansion, Hongfeng Carbon is positioning itself to play a larger role in supplying advanced materials critical to next-generation technologies, while reinforcing supply chain reliability in an increasingly complex global manufacturing landscape.
