Georgia Natural Gas hits 1 billion pounds of carbon offsets via Greener Life programme

Georgia Natural Gas has announced that its Greener Life® customer programme has now offset more than 1 billion pounds of carbon emissions, marking a major milestone in its voluntary carbon reduction initiative.
The programme enables participating customers to offset emissions associated with their natural gas consumption, effectively making their usage carbon neutral through the purchase of verified carbon credits.
Since its launch in 2019, more than 100,000 customers have joined Greener Life, contributing to emissions reductions supported by certified offset projects including forest conservation, landfill gas capture and industrial emissions reduction initiatives.
The company said the cumulative offset volume is equivalent to preventing more than 20,000 garbage truckloads of waste from being sent to landfill, based on Environmental Protection Agency greenhouse gas conversion estimates.
Offsets generated through the programme are verified under Green-e standards, which require independent verification and adherence to strict environmental integrity and consumer protection criteria.
Mike Braswell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Georgia Natural Gas, said the milestone reflected growing customer engagement in voluntary climate action initiatives.
He said the programme demonstrates how incremental consumer choices can contribute to broader emissions reductions when aggregated across large customer bases.
Greener Life allows customers to support carbon reduction projects without changing their energy consumption patterns, instead financing external projects that reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere in the economy.
The company added that demand for voluntary offset programmes continues to grow as households and businesses seek simple ways to address their environmental impact alongside broader energy transition efforts.
