Feintool, Sitec collaborate on fuel cells plates in China

The companies will work on the production of metallic bipolar plates for fuel cells in China.

Feintool and Sitec, both technology companies, agreed to work on producing metallic bipolar plates for fuel cells in China.

The partners will first set up the equipment, which will combine Feintool’s technology FEINforming and Sitec’s laser technology, at Feintool’s existing production plant in Taicang, near Shanghai.

FEINforming technology, developed by Feintool, is used for the production of bipolar plates. The company has planned to facilitate customers, not only in Europe but also in China, with the technology. Combining FEINforming and laser welding technology facilitates the precise forming of bipolar plates by combining individual plates.

As part of the partnership, Sitec will facilitate with machines and experienced employees to work on the project with Feintool.

The high-precision processing of the thinnest material thicknesses leads to weight reduction and leading to a more compact arrangement of the fuel cells in a stack.

The partnership will help Feintool to supply high-quality bipolar plates to its customers. It will also help in achieving high volume production to compete in the market.

Marcel Pernici, Feintool President of System Parts Asia, said, “Two strong partners are joining their expertise and intend to produce metallic bipolar plates in China in high volumes.”

Dr Jorg Lassig, MD of Sitec Laser Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., said, “We bring our many years of experience as a global system supplier of high-tech laser processing systems and automation solutions, as well as series manufacturer of precision parts, to the cooperation.”
