Amogy and 2G Energy Demonstrate Flexible Ammonia-to-Power System

Amogy and 2G Energy have successfully demonstrated an integrated ammonia-to-power generation system that can operate using both ammonia and natural gas, marking a major step towards flexible, lower-carbon power solutions for data centres and energy-intensive industries.

The companies completed integrated testing at Amogy’s Houston facility, validating the connection between Amogy’s ammonia reformer technology and 2G Energy’s multi-fuel engine platform. The demonstration showed the potential for commercial power generation systems that can use conventional natural gas today while enabling a gradual transition towards ammonia-based fuels in the future.

The integrated AMMDrive™ solution combines Amogy’s ammonia reformer with a 2G Agenitor 412 reciprocating engine-generator set. During testing, the reformer converted ammonia into a hydrogen-rich fuel stream, which was then used by the 2G engine to produce electricity while achieving key performance targets required for future commercial applications.

The 2G engine technology can also operate as a cogeneration system, producing both electricity and usable thermal energy, such as hot water, helping improve overall energy efficiency for industrial and commercial users.

The successful demonstration confirmed critical technical elements of the integrated system, including fuel supply, control systems and coordinated operation between the ammonia reformer and engine. The companies said the results bring the technology closer to commercial deployment.

The fuel-flexible design is aimed at addressing growing demand for reliable on-site power, particularly among data centres and other industries facing increasing electricity demand, grid limitations and long infrastructure development timelines.

By supporting both natural gas and ammonia-derived hydrogen fuel, the system provides businesses with immediate energy reliability while creating a pathway towards long-term decarbonisation. Customers can initially use available natural gas supplies before gradually increasing the use of low-carbon ammonia as infrastructure and supply chains develop.

The modular design of the AMMDrive system also allows facilities to expand power capacity in stages as demand increases, helping businesses align energy investment with operational growth.

Seonghoon Woo, CEO of Amogy, said the successful test demonstrates the potential of the company’s ammonia-to-power platform to provide practical solutions for customers facing current power challenges while supporting future decarbonisation goals.

Pablo Hofelich, CEO of 2G Energy, said the collaboration highlights the flexibility of 2G’s engine technology and its ability to support evolving fuel strategies, including ammonia-derived hydrogen.

Following the successful demonstration, Amogy and 2G Energy will continue improving the integration of the reformer and engine systems while exploring opportunities for commercial projects and market expansion in regions including the US, Asia and other international markets.

The partnership reflects growing industry interest in fuel-flexible energy technologies that can provide reliable power today while supporting the global transition towards cleaner energy sources.
