Alimak Group’s climate targets approved by SBTi

Alimak Group’s emissions reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming that the company’s climate goals are aligned with the latest climate science and the ambition of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

The approval marks a significant milestone for the Swedish industrial group as it works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain while helping customers improve the efficiency and sustainability of their operations.

Alimak Group said sustainability is embedded in its business strategy and long-term approach to value creation, with emissions reductions forming a key part of its environmental priorities.

“ As a company, we have a responsibility to continuously reduce our environmental impact while helping customers meet their own sustainability ambitions,” said Ole Kristian Jødahl, president and chief executive of Alimak Group.

“The SBTi approval is an important milestone as it demonstrates that our climate targets are science-based, ambitious and independently validated. Sustainability and long-term business success go hand in hand, and this approval reinforces our commitment to both,” he added.

Under the targets approved by SBTi, Alimak Group will seek to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2031, compared with its 2019 baseline.

The company has also committed to reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% per SEK of value added by 2031, using 2023 as the baseline year.

The Scope 3 target covers emissions associated with purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transport and distribution, waste generated through operations, business travel, downstream transport and distribution, the use of products sold by the company and their end-of-life treatment.

Scope 3 emissions are generated throughout a company’s wider value chain and can represent a significant share of its overall climate impact, making reductions in areas such as procurement, logistics and product use an important part of Alimak Group’s strategy.

The SBTi validation provides an independent assessment of whether corporate emissions reduction targets are consistent with climate science. For Alimak Group, the approval reinforces its stated ambition to address emissions not only from its own operations but also across the broader value chain.

The company said its sustainability strategy is intended to combine environmental improvements with long-term business performance, while its products and solutions are also aimed at helping customers operate more efficiently.

With the newly validated targets, Alimak Group has established measurable emissions reduction goals for both its direct operational emissions and wider value-chain impact as it works towards its longer-term climate ambitions.
