Air Liquide, Eni to develop hydrogen mobility in Italy

Air Liquide and Eni have partnered to support hydrogen mobility to decarbonise the transport segment in Italy.

Under the LoI, both companies will invest in developing the hydrogen infrastructure to expand hydrogen mobility in Italy. The aim is to enable the sustainable deployment of an extended network of hydrogen refuelling stations in Italy.

Initially, both partners will conduct a detailed study to explore the development of the low-carbon and renewable hydrogen supply chain to support the fuel cell hydrogen mobility market. They will also identify the strategic locations for the positioning of hydrogen refuelling stations in Italy.

The partnership will leverage Air Liquide’s expertise across the entire hydrogen value chain (production, transportation, storage and distribution) and Eni’s expertise in commercial and retail activities, coupled with the availability of an extended network of service stations. The cooperation will also support the development of technologies, skills, and infrastructures to enable hydrogen mobility and explore partnerships with other relevant players.

At the beginning of 2022, Eni will open the first hydrogen refuelling station in Italy in Mestre (Venice), followed by the second one in San Donato Milanese (Milan).
