H2X Global releases hydrogen-powered pickup
H2X over the past 12-18 months to develop the Warrego.
Liberty Energy Capital announced that its partner, H2X Global, has successfully produced one of the world’s first hydrogen-fuelled All Wheel Drive Pick Ups, showcased in the Netherlands.
With a working vehicle, the Warrego is undergoing final validation and verification testing procedures in the Netherlands as it heads towards gaining European and global certification, with Australian certification testing commencing soon.
H2X will target Europe for the first release due to the availability of hydrogen at the customer level in several cities where the order status has been high, and government support is present to develop the hydrogen economy.
The release of the first Warrego serves as a proof of concept for H2X’s hybrid hydrogen fuel cell system and powertrain, which it will use to develop a suite of carbon-free vehicles, including the Darling Delivery Van and Taxi/MPV.
The first release Warrego features a 60-kW fuel cell connected to a hybrid battery/supercapacitor electric drive system. This is connected to a 700-bar type 4 hydrogen tank system constructed with an advanced polymer and carbon fibre base, which offers exceptional safety levels with very long standards of operation.
While this will allow the car to work at the lower 350 bar compression, it can run at much higher compression rates, which will double the range per tank.
The Warrego will be available to customers over the coming months and in line with the availability of hydrogen. Production of the vehicle will be undertaken in Europe and in Australia at H2X’s facility in Sale, Victoria.
