Vallourec and Syngular Solutions Partner to Advance Carbon Removal Projects in Brazil
Vallourec has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Brazilian engineering and consulting firm Syngular Solutions to accelerate the development of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) projects in Brazil, strengthening its position in the growing carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) sector.
The agreement establishes a collaborative framework focused on identifying and developing carbon capture and geological storage opportunities, particularly within Brazil’s ethanol industry, which is increasingly viewed as one of the most promising markets for large-scale carbon removal projects. The partnership will enable Vallourec to engage with project developers and industrial customers at an early stage while contributing technical expertise and infrastructure solutions for carbon storage applications.
BECCS is considered one of the leading carbon removal technologies because it captures carbon dioxide generated from biomass-based energy production and permanently stores it underground in geological formations such as depleted oil and gas reservoirs or deep saline aquifers. By removing more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits, the process can deliver net-negative emissions, making it a potentially important tool in global decarbonisation efforts.
Brazil is regarded as a particularly attractive market for BECCS development due to the scale of its bioethanol industry and the availability of suitable geological formations for long-term carbon storage. Through the partnership, Syngular Solutions will continue working with ethanol producers to assess storage opportunities and advance project development, while Vallourec will provide industrial and technological expertise linked to carbon transport and storage infrastructure.
Vallourec said the agreement forms part of its broader strategy to expand its presence in emerging low-carbon energy sectors by collaborating with specialised partners capable of addressing the technical, environmental and economic challenges associated with the energy transition.
Bertrand de Rotalier, Senior Vice President of New Energies, Line Pipe and Process at Vallourec, said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of CCUS development and establishing a meaningful role in future carbon storage infrastructure.
André Lacerda, Senior Vice President for South America Tubes Activities, highlighted Brazil’s unique advantages for BECCS deployment, citing both the country’s extensive ethanol production capacity and favourable geological conditions for CO₂ storage.
Syngular Solutions chief executive Luiz Rocha said the partnership combines the company’s expertise in geological storage assessment and integrated project development with Vallourec’s industrial capabilities, creating a platform to accelerate the deployment of CCS and BECCS projects across Brazil.
As governments and industries increasingly seek scalable carbon removal solutions to complement emissions reduction efforts, the agreement underscores growing interest in BECCS as a pathway to achieve net-negative emissions while supporting the decarbonisation of industrial sectors and energy systems.
