Toyo-Morton Switches Saitama Factory to Net Zero CO2 City Gas

Toyo-Morton Saitama Factory has switched all of its city gas consumption to carbon offset city gas with net zero CO2 emissions, reducing its annual carbon emissions by approximately 300 tons and strengthening its commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

The move, announced by artience group company Toyo-Morton, Ltd., took effect on 1 August 2026 at the company’s Saitama Factory in Hiki District, Saitama Prefecture, which specialises in the development and production of laminating adhesives.

The newly introduced carbon offset city gas uses voluntary carbon credits issued and traded by private-sector organisations, including companies and non-governmental organisations. Through these credits, greenhouse gas emissions generated across the natural gas value chain, from extraction through to combustion, are offset by supporting global environmental conservation projects in emerging and other regions.

As a result, the carbon emissions associated with the factory’s city gas usage are considered net zero on a global basis.

The transition builds on Toyo-Morton’s previous decarbonisation initiatives at the Saitama Factory. In April 2022, the facility switched all electricity consumption to effectively renewable energy sources through tracking FIT non-fossil certificates, achieving a CO2 emissions reduction of more than 99% compared with levels before March 2022.

This latest city gas initiative further advances the company’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout its operations and supports the wider sustainability strategy of the artience group.

The artience group has established its sustainability vision, “asv2050/2030”, which focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and accelerating decarbonisation across the entire value chain. Toyo-Morton said it will continue improving production processes, introducing high-efficiency manufacturing equipment and reducing energy consumption.

The company is also working to lower environmental impacts throughout the product lifecycle by developing and supplying sustainability-focused products.

By combining renewable energy adoption, carbon offset solutions and operational improvements, Toyo-Morton aims to support the transition towards a lower-carbon manufacturing sector while contributing to global climate action.
