Thyssenkrupp nucera and BHEL sign agreement to localise alkaline electrolyser manufacturing in India
German electrolyser technology company thyssenkrupp nucera and India’s state-owned engineering giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited have signed a strategic collaboration agreement to advance the local manufacture of alkaline water electrolyser systems for green hydrogen projects across India.
The agreement, signed at BHEL’s corporate office in New Delhi and witnessed by the German Ambassador to India, provides for a phased localisation of alkaline electrolyser module fabrication within India, combining BHEL’s extensive engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities across its national facility network with thyssenkrupp nucera’s proven electrolysis technology. Under the arrangement, the two companies will jointly participate in tenders for green hydrogen projects in India and collaborate on project implementation.
The deal forms part of thyssenkrupp nucera’s strategy to strengthen its position in what it describes as one of the world’s most important growth markets for green hydrogen.
For BHEL, the collaboration is designed to enhance its contribution to the National Green Hydrogen Mission and support the Government of India’s Make in India initiative. India aims to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and has already seen binding 10-year supply contracts awarded for 724,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia to fertiliser plants through the SIGHT scheme.
