Snowfox Discovery secures Iowa acreage for natural hydrogen exploration

Snowfox Discovery has secured exploration leases covering more than 10,000 acres in Audubon County, Iowa, marking the company’s first major U.S. land position and a key step in its strategy to develop a global portfolio of natural hydrogen opportunities.

The company said the acreage lies within what it considers a highly prospective area of the Mid-Continental Rift system. Snowfox selected the region using its exploration approach combining geophysical surveys, geochemical analysis and proprietary geological modelling.

The newly secured land position is expected to support an exploration program that could progress toward drilling activities in late 2027 or 2028. Snowfox said the project represents an opportunity to advance the evaluation of naturally occurring hydrogen resources as a potential clean energy source.

The Iowa project also benefits from nearby ammonia and fertilizer infrastructure, which could provide a potential pathway for early industrial hydrogen demand if exploration results support commercial development.

Daniel McMahon, CEO of Snowfox Discovery, said the company’s initial land access milestone provides a foundation for applying its hydrogen exploration technologies and workflows to identify and develop potential resources in the region.
