Nordic Ren-Gas partners with Sunfire to scale green hydrogen and e-methane production in Europe
Nordic Ren-Gas and Sunfire have announced a long-term partnership agreement aimed at accelerating the development of large-scale green hydrogen and renewable e-methane projects across Europe.
Under the agreement, Sunfire will become a preferred supplier of electrolysis technology for Ren-Gas’ future project portfolio, strengthening the technology foundation for the Finnish company’s expansion plans.
The partnership builds on an existing collaboration at Ren-Gas’ Tampere e-methane plant in Finland, where Sunfire is supplying a 50 MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser for green hydrogen production.
Nordic Ren-Gas is developing an integrated European value chain that combines renewable electricity, green hydrogen production and carbon utilisation to produce renewable e-methane for European transport markets.
The company said the partnership with Sunfire will support the scaling of its projects by providing access to proven industrial electrolysis technology and enabling larger-scale production of renewable fuels.
“Ren-Gas has developed a fully European value chain for its first e-methane project in Tampere,” said Saara Kujala, CEO of Nordic Ren-Gas. “The value chain enables the production of competitive, renewable e-methane for the European road transportation markets. The support of reliable key equipment partners, such as Sunfire, has been invaluable throughout this journey, and will allow Ren-Gas to scale production across its project portfolio.”
The Tampere project is designed around Finland’s strong renewable energy resources and its connection to wider European energy markets. Ren-Gas said its sector integration model, combining flexible operations with renewable power generation, demonstrates how industrial decarbonisation can be achieved at commercial scale.
The agreement also reflects confidence in Sunfire’s recently launched HyLink® Alkaline 23 system, which is designed to support the deployment of industrial-scale green hydrogen projects.
Sunfire CEO Nils Aldag said the partnership highlights growing demand for reliable electrolysis solutions as Europe accelerates its transition toward low-carbon energy systems.

For Sunfire, the agreement strengthens its position in Finland’s emerging hydrogen market. The company is already involved in major European hydrogen developments, including industrial-scale installations in Germany and Spain, as well as Finland’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen project in Harjavalta.
The partnership follows another significant milestone for Nordic Ren-Gas, which recently announced a renewable e-methane offtake agreement worth approximately €1 billion with avanca/Alternoil.
The agreement is among the largest renewable e-methane commercial arrangements announced in Europe to date and provides long-term demand visibility for production from the Tampere facility.
The collaboration between Nordic Ren-Gas and Sunfire reflects the broader acceleration of Europe’s hydrogen economy, with renewable hydrogen increasingly viewed as a key component in decarbonising transport, industry and energy systems where direct electrification remains challenging.
