Lhyfe and Messer strike ten-year hydrogen supply deal as Messer takes 30% stake in four production sites

French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe has signed a major commercial, industrial and financial partnership with Messer, the world’s largest privately owned specialist in industrial, medical, electronic and speciality gases.
Under the agreement, announced on 13 July 2026, Messer will take a 30% stake in the company holding four of Lhyfe’s hydrogen production sites, three in France and one in Germany, and the two partners will sign a ten-year contract for the supply of renewable hydrogen.
Messer commits to a minimum volume beginning in 2026 that is expected to grow gradually to several hundred tonnes per year, and beyond this commitment the group aims to purchase half the output of the three French sites concerned.
The transaction marks Lhyfe’s first capital rotation and, according to the company, strengthens its financial profile through more visible and recurring cash flows while validating the industrial quality and value-creation potential of its assets. Lhyfe will continue to fully consolidate the entity holding the four sites.
For Messer, the deal secures long-term access to renewable hydrogen, including RFNBO-certified volumes, which it will integrate into its multi-gas offering for existing and new industrial customers.
Messer Chief Executive Peter Mohnen said the geographically diversified production footprint would allow the group to optimise supply chains and cut transport-related emissions, while Lhyfe founder and Chief Executive Matthieu Guesné said the backing of a company with more than 125 years of experience sent a strong signal to the entire industry about the accelerating adoption of renewable hydrogen.
