Gevo Expands Carbon Removal Business with New Digital Platform as Demand for High-Quality Credits Surges

Gevo has announced a major expansion of its carbon removal business and the launch of a new digital platform aimed at increasing market access to its carbon credits, as demand for verified carbon removal solutions continues to accelerate globally.
The diversified energy company revealed the launch of GevoCarbon.com, a dedicated website designed to connect buyers directly with its carbon abatement and carbon removal offerings across both compliance and voluntary carbon markets. The move comes as the global carbon removal sector, estimated to be worth $12 billion, experiences growing interest from corporations seeking credible pathways to meet net-zero commitments.
The announcement coincides with Climate Week London, where Gevo executives are set to participate in discussions on the future of carbon removal standards and the evolution of international carbon markets.
Gevo’s growing presence in the sector has been underscored by its recent ranking among the world’s top five suppliers of delivered carbon removal credits, according to carbon market intelligence platform CDR.fyi. The company says it has issued more carbon removal credits than any other supplier in a market where many engineered carbon removal projects continue to face technical and operational challenges that restrict delivery.
Alex Clayton, Chief Carbon Officer at Gevo, said the company is helping establish industry standards while creating new opportunities across voluntary and compliance carbon markets.
“We believe this business can exceed $30 million from our existing operations as demand grows for high-quality carbon removal,” Clayton said. “We see a clear long-term path towards a fungible carbon credit market built on trusted standards that can ultimately support a global exchange-traded system.”
The company reported that carbon removal sales during the first half of 2026 have already surpassed its total sales for the whole of 2025, with all customer deliveries completed on schedule. Organisations that have retired Gevo North Dakota carbon dioxide removal certificates through the Puro Registry include Nasdaq, Delta Air Lines, Monzo Bank, Bank of Montreal and Amgen.
The newly launched platform aims to simplify access to Gevo’s carbon removal products, allowing prospective buyers to engage directly with the company while providing educational resources on bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), the technology underpinning its carbon removal strategy.
Carbon removal has become an increasingly important component of global decarbonisation efforts, particularly for sectors where emissions are difficult to eliminate entirely. Gevo is positioning its operational BECCS facility in North Dakota as a cornerstone of its growth strategy, focusing on the delivery of verified carbon removal credits backed by long-term carbon storage.
According to the company, more than 580,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide have been permanently stored through its operations over the past four years. Gevo says this volume is roughly equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of a city with 70,000 residents and represents one of the largest achievements among engineered carbon removal projects currently operating.
“The carbon removal market has been slow to meet delivery demand,” Clayton said. “As a BECCS project working within existing energy systems, Gevo is uniquely positioned to bring delivery assurance and financial durability to a market that needs it.”
Gevo’s carbon credits are certified under the Puro Standard through Puro.earth, with additional monitoring provided by Cula Technologies. The company says its approach prioritises rigorous verification, durability and transparency, factors that are becoming increasingly important as buyers seek confidence in the environmental integrity of carbon credits.
Alongside its external sales efforts, Gevo is also applying its carbon strategy internally by using carbon credits to offset corporate travel emissions, demonstrating practical applications for carbon removal while reinforcing confidence in its own products.
As governments, investors and corporations intensify efforts to achieve climate goals, the market for high-quality carbon removal credits is expected to expand significantly. Gevo‘s latest investment in digital infrastructure and market access signals its ambition to play a leading role in shaping the future of the global carbon economy.
