FuelCell Energy Secures Deal to Supply Up to 380MW of Clean Power for AI Data Centres

FuelCell Energy has signed a strategic agreement with Fit Energy that could see up to 380MW of clean, on-site power deployed to support the rapidly growing energy demands of artificial intelligence and data centre infrastructure.
The agreement includes an initial 30MW deployment scheduled to begin later this year, marking the first phase of what could become one of the largest fuel cell-powered data centre energy partnerships announced to date.
Under the deal, FuelCell Energy will provide utility-scale fuel cell systems capable of delivering continuous baseload electricity directly at customer sites. The technology is designed to offer reliable behind-the-meter power, reducing dependence on grid infrastructure while supporting the growing energy requirements of advanced computing and AI workloads.
The partnership reflects a broader trend across the global technology sector, where data centre operators are increasingly seeking dedicated power solutions to address rising electricity demand, grid constraints and sustainability targets. The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence applications has intensified concerns over power availability, prompting greater interest in alternative energy technologies capable of delivering round-the-clock electricity.
Jason Few, President and Chief Executive Officer of FuelCell Energy, said the agreement validates the company’s decision to expand manufacturing capacity to 500MW annually in anticipation of growing demand from the digital infrastructure sector.
He said Fit Energy had distinguished itself through its commitment to energy-as-a-service solutions that balance reliability, community needs and environmental considerations, making it a strong partner for future deployments.
Fit Energy specialises in developing power infrastructure for advanced computing facilities and large-scale AI applications. Chief Executive Officer Joel Leonoff said the agreement represents an important step in building the energy foundation required for the next generation of digital infrastructure.
He noted that FuelCell Energy’s technology aligns with Fit Energy’s objective of delivering gigawatt-scale behind-the-meter power solutions capable of supporting future AI-driven growth.
The agreement also includes a warrant structure linked to future deployment milestones across the full 380MW pipeline. FuelCell Energy said the arrangement is designed to align long-term value creation with successful project delivery and customer adoption.
The announcement comes as data centre energy consumption continues to rise globally, with operators increasingly exploring low-carbon technologies including fuel cells, hydrogen, nuclear power and renewable energy systems to meet growing demand while supporting decarbonisation goals.
For FuelCell Energy, the agreement represents another significant move into the data centre sector, which is emerging as a major growth market for distributed clean energy technologies capable of providing resilient, continuous power independent of grid limitations.
If fully implemented, the partnership could establish a substantial new source of clean power capacity dedicated to AI and advanced computing infrastructure, reinforcing the growing convergence between the energy transition and the digital economy.
