European CCUS National Associations Forum launched to accelerate carbon capture deployment across Europe

The Carbon Capture and Storage Association has announced the launch of the European CCUS National Associations Forum, a new informal platform designed to strengthen collaboration between national and regional organisations working on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) across Europe.

The initiative brings together CCUS stakeholders to improve coordination, share best practices and support the rapid scale-up of carbon capture technologies as Europe advances its net-zero transition. With governments tightening climate targets and industrial operators accelerating decarbonisation investments, the Forum aims to address regulatory, policy and deployment barriers that could slow project delivery.

The new platform will enable participating organisations to align on policy approaches, exchange technical and market insights, and support the development of consistent regulatory frameworks across different European jurisdictions. It will also provide a mechanism for engagement with countries where national CCUS associations are not yet established, helping to spread knowledge and accelerate early-stage development.

The Carbon Capture and Storage Association said the Forum reflects the growing momentum behind CCUS as a key technology for reducing industrial emissions, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, steel and waste-to-energy.

By fostering closer cooperation between national bodies, the Forum is expected to strengthen Europe’s CCUS ecosystem and support the deployment of large-scale carbon capture and storage projects needed to meet long-term climate goals.
