ETFuels picks Port of Immingham to host green hydrogen-based sustainable aviation fuel refinery

ETFuels has selected the Associated British Ports facility at Immingham in the Humber as the location for Project Kings Road Humber, a commercial-scale refinery that will convert renewable e-methanol derived from green hydrogen into sustainable aviation fuel for the UK market and for export.

The project is expected to create approximately 1,000 jobs during construction and 400 permanent skilled engineering, operations and manufacturing roles on site. The facility will feed directly into the UK’s aviation fuel supply network through Immingham’s extensive fuel storage, pipeline and distribution infrastructure and deep-water port capabilities.

ETFuels said the Humber site’s combination of world-class port infrastructure, established fuel handling and a skilled industrial workforce made it the standout location in Europe for the project. The e-methanol feedstock will be sourced from ETFuels’ Texas production platform in the United States, where it is made using green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide, and then shipped to Immingham for conversion to e-SAF using methanol-to-jet technology.

ETFuels Chief Executive Lara Naqushbandi called the announcement a major vote of confidence in the Humber and in Britain’s industrial future, describing it as an effort to create a new advanced manufacturing capability rather than simply a standalone facility. A planning application will now be submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council.
